David Levien, MD, MBA, FACS is President and CEO and Board
Chairman of The American College of Healthcare Trustees. Dave
practiced clinical surgery for 33 years, 20 of which were as
Chairman of Surgery and 12 as Program Director of a Surgical
Residency. He has served as a Member of The Board of Directors
of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia, The Philadelphia
County Medical Society, Meals on Wheels and Senior Outreach
Services of Walnut Creek, California, and The Chamber of
Commerce of Pleasant Hill, California, and The Shore Acres Point
Corporation of Mamaroneck, N.Y.
He has been President of The Baltimore Academy of Surgery and The Pennsylvania Society of Colon and Rectal Surgery. He has been Vice President of The Academy of Surgery of Philadelphia and Vice President of the national society, The American
Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. He has patented a medical device, published 3 surgical books and multiple papers,
and achieved the faculty rank of Clinical Professor of Surgery, Jefferson Medical College and Professor of Clinical Surgery, New York Medical College. He received his B.A. from Johns Hopkins, his MD from Georgetown (cum laude), and MBA from University of Massachusetts Isenberg School of Management. He has been Board Certified in both general and colorectal surgery and held a certificate of special qualification is surgical critical care. He is a certified physician executive (CPE). He previously held Series 6, 65,7 and life and health, and property and casualty licenses.
Thomas V. Whalen, MD, MMM, FACHE is a pediatric surgeon and
until this year was Executive Vice President and Chief Medical
Officer at Lehigh Valley Health Network, an exceedingly well-respected institution in Pennsylvania. Prior to that, he was the
Anne and Carl Anderson Distinguished Chair of Surgery at
Lehigh Valley Health Network. Tom has served on the Board of
Regents of the American College of Surgeons and is a Past
President of the Association of Program Directors in Surgery.
Tom chaired The Residency Review Committee of the
Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. Dr. Whalen received his Bachelor of Arts from Boston University and Doctor of Medicine degree from Boston University School of Medicine. He received a Master of Medical Management degree from Carnegie Mellon University. Tom did his general surgical training at Boston University and at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth,
Virginia. Dr. Whalen served his pediatric surgery training at Children's Hospital of Los Angeles. He is certified in general surgery, surgical critical care, and pediatric
surgery. Tom has published many articles relating to postgraduate medical education. Tom has served as a Captain in the Naval Reserve and in many other important capacities.
